Andrew's Book Review - Cirque du Freak

28/11/2013

Author: Darren Shan

The main part of the story is that Darren and his friend go to a freak show and see a weird spider that Darren wants (really wants) so steals and becomes its master. But when Steve gets bitten by the spider he goes into a coma as poison goes in his veins. Darren must save him and become a vampire and fake his death that destroys his family. He joins Mr Crepsley and goes on the Cirque du Freak around the world while Steve wants him dead!

28/11/2013

Author:
Jeff Kinney.

Illlustrator:
Jeff Kinney.

Retell the story:

Greg is a young boy with two brothers called Manny and Rodrick.

Greg’s best friend’s name is Rowley.

Rowley has been his best friend ever since he moved into Greg’s neighbourhood.

But thier friendship gets distroyed when Rowley gets a girlfriend called Abigail.

Now Greg has to get on in life without any friends.

***

Abigail breaks up with Rowley to go out with her old boyfriend, again.

Greg and Rowley decide to make up because they are both alone.

My favourite part: My favourite part was when Rowley gets dumped by Abigail.

Joseph's Book review - The Spook's Sacrifice

28/11/2013

The author is Joseph Delaney.

Main characters: Tom, Alice, The Spook and Tom’s Mom.

This is one of the books in the series but not the first so you probably won’t understand.

Tom, his Mom, The Spook and Alice were trying to kill Ordeen in a castle. First they had to get there. They had to fight some witches and kill them all. When they got there Tom’s Mom was like “Run all of you or you will all die!" So they ran and then the castle blew up.

My favourite part was when the castle blew up.

I would recommend this book.

Science Posts

Last week was Science Week and over on our Kidblog we were busy writing posts all about the world of science. Here is a small selection of our posts:

Stephen Hawking by CD

Picture
Stephen Hawking is a great scientist. He was born on 8 January 1942 in Oxford, England. He had two younger sisters and an adopted brother. People thought the family were a little strange as at meal times all of them would read silently.

After Hawking’s 21st birthday he was diagnosed with a disease that gets worse over time. In 1960 Hawking needed crutches to walk and soon after he couldn’t write. By 1970 only his family could understand what he was saying. Now he is nearly completely paralysed and talks through a speech device.

He was married twice and he has three children. Hawking is a big fan of ”Star Trek”.

One of Stephen Hawking’s quotes is:
“However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed”.

We've been reading this book with Mr. Harney. Tom Crean was a great Irish explorer and we're eager to read on and find out more about his story.

Yesterday we did some artwork to depict a cold, wintery scene like Tom Crean might have encountered in Antarctica.
