Jeff Kinney. Illlustrator: Jeff Kinney. Retell the story: Greg is a young boy with two brothers called Manny and Rodrick. Greg’s best friend’s name is Rowley. Rowley has been his best friend ever since he moved into Greg’s neighbourhood. But thier friendship gets distroyed when Rowley gets a girlfriend called Abigail. Now Greg has to get on in life without any friends. *** Abigail breaks up with Rowley to go out with her old boyfriend, again. Greg and Rowley decide to make up because they are both alone. My favourite part: My favourite part was when Rowley gets dumped by Abigail. The author is Joseph Delaney.
Main characters: Tom, Alice, The Spook and Tom’s Mom. This is one of the books in the series but not the first so you probably won’t understand. Tom, his Mom, The Spook and Alice were trying to kill Ordeen in a castle. First they had to get there. They had to fight some witches and kill them all. When they got there Tom’s Mom was like “Run all of you or you will all die!" So they ran and then the castle blew up. My favourite part was when the castle blew up. I would recommend this book. Last week was Science Week and over on our Kidblog we were busy writing posts all about the world of science. Here is a small selection of our posts: Stephen Hawking by CDStephen Hawking is a great scientist. He was born on 8 January 1942 in Oxford, England. He had two younger sisters and an adopted brother. People thought the family were a little strange as at meal times all of them would read silently.
After Hawking’s 21st birthday he was diagnosed with a disease that gets worse over time. In 1960 Hawking needed crutches to walk and soon after he couldn’t write. By 1970 only his family could understand what he was saying. Now he is nearly completely paralysed and talks through a speech device. He was married twice and he has three children. Hawking is a big fan of ”Star Trek”. One of Stephen Hawking’s quotes is: “However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed”. We've been reading this book with Mr. Harney. Tom Crean was a great Irish explorer and we're eager to read on and find out more about his story. Yesterday we did some artwork to depict a cold, wintery scene like Tom Crean might have encountered in Antarctica. Last week was Maths Week. Throughout the week we enjoyed some maths related activities. On Thursday we did a maths table quiz from Seomra Ranga.
Just over a week ago, Mr. O'Farrell came to our classroom to test the water in our fish tank. He used a special testing kit to show us how much amonia was in the water. Unfortunately it turned out that the water wasn't in great condition! The picture below shows this (the darker the green, the worse the water). So, on the advice of Mr. O'Farrell, we set about improving this. We, well Robbie, changed some of the water every day and added small drops of a chemical that helps reduce the chlorine. On Friday, Mr. O'Farrell came back to test the water again and we saw a huge improvement (see below). Hopefully our fish are now a bit happier!
