Fact File:
Irish name: Cill Dara
Province: Leinster
Nickname: The Lilywhites
Kit Colour: All white
Grounds: St. Conleth’s Park, Newbridge and Conneff Park, Clane
History:
Kildare made a massive contribution to gaelic by inventing the ‘Hand Pass’ in 1903!!! Kildares’ four All-Ireland titles came between 1905 to 1928, beating Kerry in 1905, Galway in 1919, Kerry again in 1927 and 1928 finals. Kildare became the first county to win the Sam Maguire cup in 1928 but haven’t won the cup since. Kildare footballers seemed to have difficulty winning the Leinster Championship, the county lost six Leinster finals in the twelve years between 1966 and 1978. Mick O’Dwyer’s time at Kerry made him the most successful manager in Gaelic history and then came to Kildare to lead them to an All-Ireland final but narrowly lost out to Galway. He won a Leinster Championship also in his time managing Kildare but it was Kerry where he made a huge impression.
They won another Leinster Championship in 2000, but in 2002 they lost to Dublin and in 2003 they lost to Laois. The new reign of Keiren McGeeney as Kildare manager didn’t go to plan in his first year after losing in the first round to Wicklow at Croke Park in 2008. And they haven’t won anything since 2000.

Interview:
The Friday before Easter I went to my Mom’s work just to give an interview and get my Lily White jersey signed personally by their in and out captain Johnny Doyle. When I got there the plant manager said that Johnny had to go to an extra training session. Of, course I was disappointed but then the manager said he would ask Johnny the questions that I would have asked him. The next day the manager texted my Mom the answers, this is what it looked like.
Hi Johnny, how are you today? Very Good
Good because I’m going to ask you a few questions. No Problem
Who works the hardest in training? Emmet Bolton
Who is the biggest messer? Brian Flanagan
Who is your best mate? Dermot Earley
Who has the least amount of sense of dressing? Rob Kelly, no mirror in his bedroom.
Who would you like to see take charge of Kildare if Kieran Mc Geaney steps down as coach? No Comment classified information.
Do you like soccer? Yes a Man U fan
Can you then come down and see our soccer match tomorrow night or are you busy? Sorry I am training.
Do you do anything special before a match? Plenty of rest
I may update this as Johnny has now said that I could meet him anytime and maybe if I’m lucky enough he might let me record it!
Thanks,
Eoghan
